Polypectomy

Polypectomy is a medical procedure aimed at removing polyps, abnormal growths of tissue, typically found in the colon, rectum, stomach, or bladder. During the procedure, a specialized instrument is passed through an endoscope to visualize and remove the polyp. Techniques include using a wire loop (snare) to cut the polyp or forceps to grasp and remove it. Polypectomy is commonly performed during colonoscopy to remove precancerous polyps and reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. It is a safe and effective procedure, often allowing patients to resume normal activities shortly after. Regular surveillance may be required to monitor for recurrence or new polyps.
